We spent the beginning of the week learning about fall. It was nice to revisit some of the ideas we have already learned about this year. It is neat to see the kids making connections about apple trees and other trees. We learned that all trees make their own food (we even learned two big words-chlorophyll and photosynthesis-not that I expect them to remember-but early exposure can't hurt, right?). It was quite surprising to the kids that trees give us fresh air to breathe. We also talked about signs of fall. Here is the list we came up with:
1) The leaves fall to the ground.
2) The leaves change color.
3) It starts getting colder.
4) Squirrels and chipmunks gather nuts.
5) Apples and pumpkins are ripe.
6) The days get shorter.
7) Harvest
8) Birds fly to warmer places.
9) Bears prepare to hibernate.
Next week we will begin learning about pumpkins!
This weekend ask your child about:
1) Signs of fall
2) Our new sight word: on
3) Pippa Pig
4) Our field trip
I read an idea the other day that I thought would be great for families. The idea is to keep letter cards on a ring by the door and as you go to walk out the door have your child identify one as their 'ticket out the door'. I thought you could use this idea depending on where your child is. Some kids could work on capital letters, some could work on lower case letters, some might benefit from numbers, and others might be ready for sight words. Keep the game in mind, every little bit of exposure and repetition helps kiddos to learn!
Important Reminders:
