We spent the week of October 14th learning about fall. We talked about all the different ways we can tell it is fall outside. Last week we started our pumpkin unit. Mr. Petersen (from the Community Cupboard) came in to ask if we could help him fill his shelves for the busy holiday season. Of course, I am not surprised that the kids were willing helpers. We have decided we will have a bake sale for the teachers here at school to help raise money. We are going to use the pumpkin we bought at the orchard to make a pumpkin treat. We talked about pumpkin foods and then sent a survey to the teachers to see what pumpkin food they like best. We will tally the votes this week. On Tuesday, we will make posters to advertise our bake sale. On Wednesday, we will clean and cook our pumpkin (I'll puree it that night). On Thursday, we will bake our treat. Friday we will set up a bake sale here in our room and we will sell away! We will use the money we make to go to Fareway and purchase the foods Mr. Petersen told us he needs. Sometime before Thanksgiving we will walk to the Community Cupboard and put the food on his shelves. We have been talking about how important it is to help others and how good it will feel when we are done. Thank you for your support with all the ingredients you are sending (if you've been asked). We will also need small plates and cups if anyone would like to donate and did not receive an ingredient request.
This weekend ask your child about:
1) Fall
2) Our letter friends: Sammy Seal, Pippa Pig, and Tiggy Tiger
3) Pumpkin Foods
