We spent the week talking about the story, "The Mitten". It is another folktale so we were able to read different versions of the story and compare/contrast the books. The kids really enjoyed retelling the story and acting the book out. I will send home their story retell props soon so they can tell you the story. This week we also practiced our writing, I switched all the kids over to lower case letters for their name (so work on this at home when working on writing), and we learned a new sight word: is. We have really been working on numbers in the teens and beginning sounds so those are some other items you can work on at home.
Conferences are coming fast! I will have conferences on Saturday, February 15th and Tuesday, February 18th. Your day and time from the fall will stay the same. If you came on Saturday in the fall you will come on Saturday at that same time. I will send home a reminder at the end of January. If you need to be refreshed before that please email me. If you are unable to attend at your fall conference time please let me know as soon as possible so we can try to find another spring conference time. Half of the time during our spring conference will be spent talking about your child's report card. The remaining time will be used for your child to show you something they have learned.
I will be sending our schedule for Star of the Week home on Monday. Every child will get a turn to be the star. It would be wonderful if someone from your family can visit and share an activity with the class. It means so much to the kids!
I would like to open a grocery store center in our room. If you have clean, dry containers please send them to school with your child. We need cereal boxes, granola bar boxes, empty oatmeal containers, etc. Thank you for your support all year!
Tomorrow is a stay home day!
Have a fun and safe weekend!
